Easterly Raw Water Main
Ashtabula County, Ohio
Ashtabula County offers industry access to raw water to more than a dozen local manufacturers. The Port supplies more than 20 million gallons of water daily to local industry and is upgrading and expanding the system for more reliable and additional industry use.
This project consisted of more than 5,500 lf of 30” through 42-in water main, pump room modifications of interior 36” and 42” pipework, and complexly interconnected 42-in diameter yard piping. Much of the water main construction was in historically industrial utilized property, which required extensive research into potential legacy environmental issues and abandoned pipelines and structures.
The project alignment also included crossing SR 531 and three sets of railroad tracks. The equipment installed included a large-diameter gate and butterfly valves, metering facilities, surge anticipation valve, and air release valves.
We addressed significant maintenance-of-operation challenges with detailed construction sequencing, multiple large-diameter linestops, and temporary bypasses. This project was completed on time and under budget to meet the needs of the Ashtabula County Port Authority and area industries.
