Ohio University Service Drive Turnaround Improvements
Athens, Ohio
The design addressed safety and access for University deliveries.
CT prepared detailed plans, specifications, and bidding documents, and provide assistance during bidding and construction for the Shively Service Drive Turnaround project. This was a fast-track project requiring that construction be completed during the summer session of the academic year.
The service drive provides access to the Shively Hall loading dock and there was no place for trucks to turn around at the loading dock area, resulting in dangerous conditions. The project design was a cul-de-sac to provide for trucks to complete a loop maneuver to effect a turn-around at the loading dock. Construction material was non-reinforced concrete to endure the rigors of truck turning movements. Pedestrian safety was assigned with sidewalks around the cul-de-sac Street light modifications at the cul-de-sac were included and designed to be sensitive to their location (within the former courtyard area of a residential dormitory).
