Public engagement was a high priority for this community.
Public engagement was a high priority for this project from the beginning, given the diversity of Newport’s people, places, and businesses. Indeed, the city’s webpage headline devoted to the Newport Comprehensive Plan Update noted that the “process that will consist of many public meetings and allow for ample public input” clearly communicates the city’s commitment to public participation.
When the pandemic disrupted public life only a few months into the project, CT successfully adapted the Steering Committee’s meeting structure and public engagement process to an entirely online forum used throughout 2020 and most of 2021.
